i definitely prefer tipping instead of service charges,
will those charges go to waitresses and waiters who are ever so patient with bad customers?
and what about those unhelpful middle aged ones? they should get nothing.
i doubt they'll ever give a hand in anything without any motivation that tipping might provide.
so why won't we have tipping back?
you might have come across many in the service line who have dreadful attitudes,
and as for me?
i've had so many incidents i've had enough of 'em.
late last year, i was at Amk Central with my dad.
we were trying to get the best selling price for my samsung phone.
let's say, we stepped into this particular shop with 2 ah bengs (unfortunately)
then i approached the golden haired one as he looked older (assuming he would quote a better price).
while his eyes were down on his mobile phone,
he talked to everyone in a FUCKIN' manner.
"take your phone out i see lah"
i patiently took it out and he said "40 dollars. other places quote you how much?"
(eyes still on his own mobile phone)
"60," i replied. my dad turned to the other guy and he was looking at the 3 of us.
maybe he sympathised with us, and that was why he started joking around and he then asked the golden haired if he could give us a better price.
"siao, how can!" he answered with his blood shot eyes still down on his mobile phone.
"sorry ah, can't help you." the younger one told my dad and I.
I'm sorry to comment that such ingrates shouldn't even be allowed to work in the front line.
What kind of service are they providing?
yesterday, we were at Singapore Safety Driving Centre to see the Chief Tester.
the lady we approached at level one said, "Chief tester? Upstairs, upstairs"
she had this look i didn't like either.
she could have said, "Our Chief Tester is upstairs. You might want to make your way to the top level?" and even better end of with a smile.
it's Friday man, why can't people in the service line smile?
we went upstairs and there were 2 ladies at the counters.
one Chinese, in her menopause stage,
and the other, a middle aged Malay.
we approached the Chinese, for what i felt was same culture's sake,
"Chief tester not in. When he come back i call you."
It's not that i feel that all old people have dementia, but it's just that i don't think she'll even remember we ever asked to see the Chief tester.
So we waited for what seemed like years, and decided to ask her again.
of course we got nothing.
and we ended up going to the canteen for
wanton mee when we went upstairs again, we sat there to wait for her instructions.
she saw us and asked, "what number are you?"
expecting she would FORGET about us, we replied, "we're waiting for the chief tester."
i have no idea if she heard us, or pretended not to hear us, or just couldn't care less.
i could wait no more and so i decided to approach the Malay lady instead.
out of so many Malays in the service line, most of them are really nice.
but definitely not this one! do all employees there have got some kind of self-absorbtion technique?
i was standing there and was i so invisible she couldn't see me?
she continued talking to her colleague who came in to stir his Kopi.
i swear she saw me at the corner of her eye!!
and so i stood there for a minute or two, listening to their entire conversation and the metal spoon clanging away in the Kopi.
"EXCUSE ME...!" i said for the third time.
The guy went out and her body faced me with no eye contact, (maybe fearing i was already fuckin' pissed with her) she asked, "yes?"
"Can i see the Chief Tester?"
"Ya, he's inside."
"So you mean i can just go in and see him like that?"
"Ya."
fine. that fuckin' Chinese bitch said nothing.
when we went in, there were a bunch of middle aged men.
or rather, monkeys.
they were chatting away, and sipping Kopi,
not tending to us.
I was irritated immediately.
finally someone said, "YES??" in this abhoring he-think-he's-really-man voice.
i didn't like the look of the Chief Tester either,
he was a white haired balding fat old humpty dumpty, rocking in his chair away.
okay, maybe i should clarfiy something,
that is, is a Chief Tester really so BIG to let us wait for hours just to pass him a letter?
okay, say maybe he had a room all to himself but not only did he reject it,
we had to waste our time and energy to ease the anger in us.
it's for sure i won't learn driving for as long as they don't change their staff.
which is propbably a never.
Ugh. anyway,
if you had the choice between
(A) a helpful sales asst. selling a bag at $39.90, and
(B) an unhelpful sales asst. selling one at $32.90
both bags are identical.
I rather let the helpful one earn my money.
So which is your pick?
