my fishes Friday, June 19, 2009 11:42 AM
to anyone who appreciates fishes -- as pets.
and shrimps -- as pets too.

just don't try to tell me to bbq them or make shrimp paste or whatever,
cus it's not funny.

anyway, here's my latest 1.5 ft planted tank,
which needs more time to mature, especially the foreground.

i spend the start of my day water changing,
and feeding the hungry guppies.

but the not so good thing about keeping guppies is that if you want to keep the genes going and not inbreed, you gotta seperate the mama fish, to prevent her from eating her babies, and when they grow bigger and are ready to mate, you gotta seperate them again,
to prevent them from mating with their sisters and brothers (inbreeding).
then introduce those that are not within to breed.

guppies are beautiful, those that are worth keeping of course,
not those they sell outside for one buck a piece,
but they sure are a hassle.
especially male ones, which 'expire' really quickly,
cus they get older faster and have no energy to chase the females.
also, they are more sensitive to changes in the environment.

i used to keep my albino guppies in a bare tank, and they were fine.
but a week after i introduced them into the planted tank,
the males started to have clamped fins and tails,
like not fanned out like before, if you get what i mean.
then about two of them still have fin rot.
it's because the water condition is so bad in a planted tank, which holds much bacteria,
as compared to a bare tank.

sometimes my fishes piss me off when they're not doing okay,
like when they're not adaptive to the environment and are super stressed,
or that my tank looks like its infected with too many pesky snails,
or my tank starts to grow all sorts of algae.

alright, at least i have a hobby which doesn't involve major shopping,
or other stuff which aren't healthy.
